Baking (annealing) PLA minimally increases strength but makes them less brittle and more flexible. The heat resistance is also increased.

The annealing process melds the layers together and allows the strands to rearrange and crystallize.

Furthermore, GRA identified 90 °C for 120 min as the ideal combination for enhancing all mechanical properties, confirming the robustness of multi-objective optimization. The crystallinity of the optimal sample, as confirmed by DSC analysis, increased to 23.84 %, compared to 9.79 % for the unannealed sample, indicating improved molecular alignment and interlayer bonding.
