Notes and notes
Use two coloumns on paper
- Cue column (left and smaller column): write relevant questions or keywords
- Note-taking column (right and larger column): write main ideas of lecture, avoid long sentences and paraphrase
When reviewing, go over the questions and notes, see if you can answer them, then summarize the notes using five to seven lines near the bottom of the page. Review the notes regularly.
For lecture you might have to review the slides or audio recording.
Effects
Ambiguous effect on performance, might allow for better notes. Might be good for synthesizing and applying knowledge, guided notes might be better for recall.
For me, I think it is just handy writing down questions and reviewing the material and then using those to synthesize new notes.
